The overreaching goal of all Faith Formation at St. Margaret’s is to bring our children and their families into a deeper relationship with our God by preparing them to become active members of our Catholic Church. We strive to develop in them a sense of engagement to a community of believers who gather together regularly to participate in the Eucharist and recognize their obligation to care for all members of the Body of Christ.
We hope to accomplish this by providing a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere for the children and their parents alike. We offer programs and gatherings that will help them to better understand their Catholic faith; deepen their personal relationship with the Lord and prepare them for receiving the sacraments.
Children can begin Faith Formation as early as three years old. All parents of young children are given the opportunity to register their child in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Program. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd which is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children, beginning at the age of three. It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, “hands-on” space for children called an atrium, in which both the children and the catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the scriptures and the liturgy. Originally developed in Rome by Dr. Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi over 50 years ago, the Catechesis continues to spread worldwide and is used with adaptation in various Christian traditions.
All children who will be first graders in September are required to register for Faith Formation to begin their preparation for receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation and Eucharist in the second grade. And will continue their Faith education through 8th grade when they will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd I is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children which begins at age three. It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, “hands-on” space for children called an atrium, in which both the children and the catechist can hear, ponder and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the scriptures and the liturgy.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd II continues in the style of Level 1, with a focus on celebrating and pondering the gift of Holy Communion.
Catechesis of the Family invites parents to grow in their faith while they guide their children in core faith formation. This flexible and engaging program nurtures faith and helps build community. Catechesis of the Family combines parish based group gatherings and grade specific instructions by trained catechists and at home sessions guided by the parents.
Chosen prepares our students intellectually and spiritually to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and to become lifelong disciples of Christ. Chosen seeks to win over the hearts of teens at a critical time in their lives and keep them firmly planted within the faith community of the church.
